This is my second tattoo. Where the Wild Things Are is my absolute favorite childhood storybook, and the movie made my love for the story even greater. I can considerably relate to Max, being an out of control child sometimes, and going into my imagination to bring myself back on my feet. I love love love my new tattoo :)

This is my tattoo, taken by my friend Melisa Holloman.
I wanted a tattoo for three years, but I couldn’t bring myself to just do it. I was kind of a baby about the needle thing. Well one day, I was off work an hour early and didn’t have to be at school for another three hours. So instead of going home, I drove myself to get a tattoo! I knew what I wanted, so it wasn’t a long process. Now I’m glad I have the “be free” tattoo, because I’ve gotten an anchor on my leg since then too! That one symbolizes my man who is in the Navy, and far away from me.
They weren’t lying when they said tattoos are addicting.. I have an appointment next week to get my favorite quote on my side… “When the power of love exceeds the love for power, the world will finally know peace.”
There is a lot that went in to this tattoo. For starters, it’s a great motivational saying. It’s also the last line in Next to Normal, the Pulitzer Prize winning musical. Each word is written in the handwriting of a (Broadway) closing night cast member.
I moved to NYC early September 2010. My first year was full of highs and lows, and many trips to the Booth Theatre to see this show. I decided that this saying would make a great tribute to my first year as a New Yorker. I look down at it every day and remember just how damn lucky I am to be living on my own in New York City at 19 years old. It’s also a reminder of all that it took to get me to this point, and that no matter what happens, there will be light.
Fun fact: I had a picture of this on Facebook in which I tagged the cast members who’s handwriting makes up the tattoo. The next morning a friend of mine posted a link to a page on broadwayworld.com in which my tattoo was featured.
It’s the best thing I have ever done in my life, and I couldn’t be happier!
This is my second tattoo. While it is a line from The Lion King, it mainly serves as a reminder. I’ve had depression “spurts” for the last couple years, and now whenever I start losing myself, I can look at my arm and remember who I am.

I got this tattoo done by my favorite tattoo artist, Derek. He runs Ludacris ink. He does the best work, and this was my favorite one he’s done so far. I got this rose to represent my beautiful city, the city of roses. Portland has always been my favorite place that I have ever lived in, so I had to make a tribute to it.
